Alec Soth – Songbook

I came across Songbook a while back during a visit to the Village Bookstore in Leeds. This latest publication from Alec Soth, a photographer from Minneapolis examines life and communities in rural America. During the project, Soth assumed the role of community newspaper reporter and from 2012-2014 travelled state by state while working on his self-published newspaper, The LBM Dispatch, as well as on assignment for the New York Times and others. From upstate New York to Silicon Valley, Soth attended hundreds of meetings, dances, festivals and communal gatherings. The resulting book is an absolute delight and is part of the current Alec Soth exhibition at The Science Museum in London. The exhibition will eventually head to the National Media Museum in Bradford in early 2016.
