Black Rock Run Kinghorn Fife Scotland
I spent an amazing but exhausting couple of hours photographing the Black Rock ′5′ race in Kinghorn, Fife, on the east coast of Scotland. The five mile race starts in Kinghorn before the runners head down to the beach and proceed to loop around the Black Rock in the Firth of Forth near Burntisland. The rock is largely under water except at a very low tide and runners can expect to find themselves shin deep in water. The first race, held in 1987, was run by 66 competitors, race numbers have increased each year with around 1000 competing in 2014. This year’s winner was Ross Houston in a time of 22.20 min.
There is a great atmosphere and as the runners stream along the wide open beach with Edinburgh and Arthur’s Seat in the background it becomes a wonderful sight. After plenty of running around myself I felt as though I had run the race and was happy to join the competitors for a pint in the Auld Hoose pub on the finish line.
